Common description
Poitiers is the main city of the French department of Vienne, the historical center of the Poitou region. It lies on a calcareous plateau, which is washed from the east and north by the Clan river and from the west by the Bois-river. Agglomeration center from 11 suburban areas.
Poitiers is one of the most architecturally richest cities in France. The ruins of the Roman aqueduct survived, and until 1857 the Roman arena could still be seen. On the other side of Clan is the so-called "Pierre levée" - dolmen, which is associated with many ancient legends and superstitions.
