Common description

Bergamo is located about 50 km from Milan, in the foothills of the Alps and in the Po River Valley. Many tourists consider Bergamo as nothing more than a transit point on the road to Milan, but this small town has much to brag about and surprise its guests.

Bergamo is divided into two parts Upper (Old) city and Lower (New) city, which are interconnected by funicular.

Bergamo is a beautiful and comfortable city, its architecture is very diverse due to the influence of Venice, under the authority of which the city was from the 15th to the 18th century. The old part of the city is the real tsar of the Middle Ages. Significant places include Old Square (Piazza Vecchia), Palace of Soviets (Palazzo della Ragione), New Palace (Palazzo Nuovo), Cathedral of Sant Alessandro (Duomo di Sant'Alessandro).
