Common description
Macerata is a small town with a population of just over 40,000 people. It is located in the central part of Italy, in the Marco region, about 30 km from the Adriatic Sea. The old part of town is on a hill between two rivers. Historic buildings have been preserved here. The cultural value is the Cathedral, the central square of Piazza della Liberta, the ancient Loggia dei Mercanti, the Palazzo Ricci and the original museum of carts. Not far from the city are the ruins of the ancient Roman settlement of Helvius Rechin.
