Padova is located in the north-east of Italy, in the Veneto region. In various periods of history, Padua was part of different states. Its final accession to modern Italy happened already in 1866, as a result of the third war for its own independence. In Padua is one of the oldest universities in the world, which was founded in 1222. In addition, the city is rich and valuable in other historical and architectural monuments. On the main square of Piazza Eremitani is the ancient Skrovegni chapel of the 14th century, decorated inside with frescoes by the hand of Giotto. Near the chapel are the ruins of an ancient Roman arena, on which gladiatorial battles were held in the Ancient Roman Empire. Another interesting place - Prato delle Valle - one of the largest squares in Europe. Also in Padua there is a traditional Jewish quarter, which is also called the maze of narrow streets. And, of course, the main cathedral of the city, which was built in the 7th century, is noteworthy, then more than once it was destroyed and restored again.
