Verona

Common description

Verona is a city in northeast Italy, the administrative center of the province of the same name. Located on the Adige River.

Hundreds of thousands of tourists visit Verona every year, including many foreigners, due to its attractions and various annual events, such as the opening of the opera season.

The city is famous for its ancient Roman and medieval architectural monuments (Castelvecchio, the arches of the Scaligers), numerous Romanesque and Gothic churches, Renaissance palaces, museums, the conservatory, as well as the university.

In Verona, the action of Shakespeare's play "Romeo and Juliet." Tourists are shown the so-called Juliet's house with its balcony and the house of Romeo, the tomb of Juliet, although these buildings have historically nothing to do with the characters in the play.

In 2000, Verona was included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
